Service

Our sorority takes pride in our involvement with the community. Since our foundation we have placed a strong emphasis on giving back to serve those in need by participating in community service on three different levels.

International: Children International

Children International is a non-profit humanitarian organization focused on helping overcome poverty through child sponsorship. Since entering into a partnership with Children International in 1990, each chapter within SIA has committed to sponsor an impoverished child in Latin America through various fundraising and educational activities. Hermanas have helped to contribute monetarily to the children's immediate and basic needs.  Our individual sponsorship includes children within the 19 project locations that Children International has established. Some of these sites include Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Philippines, and the United States.

National: One Heartland

One Heartland is a national non-profit organization that enhances the lives of children infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS through year-round support, advocacy, recreational programs and community AIDS awareness efforts. In the company of other children like themselves, they are permitted to forget the stigma of their condition. From singing around a campfire to swimming and other outdoor activities, One Heartland gives kids the chance to just be kids.

Local: Cedar Lane Walk for Our Stars

Walk for Our Stars is the main fundraiser for the students at Cedar Lane School. The school is located in Fulton, Maryland. Cedar Lane is a school for students aged 3-21 who are severely physically and mentally challenged. The Walk raises much needed funds to provide the more than 100 students specialized equipment, enrichment programs, communication devices and field trip opportunities.
