LEARN MORE ABOUT HERMANA INVOLVEMENT IN THE COMMUNITY

Below are various opportunities to become involved in the Baltimore community, all are orgs our members have served for. Feel free to ask hermanas questions about their experiences and remember you don't need to be a member of an organization to serve.

Daniela Zapata, BYFA:  As a seasonal TA, Daniela helps students learn how to use the basic features of a digital camera around the city of Baltimore as part of workshops. This summer (2018) she is leading a workshop titled “Pictures, Poetry, and Prose.”

Juliet Villegas: Dance Marathon at Johns Hopkins University is a student-run movement dedicated to year-round fundraising for our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. The event involves dancing 8 hours non-stop for the kids, to make sure they get all the things they need to have a happy childhood, no matter their circumstances.

Eileen Ramirez, CIIP intern (2016): There she helped people at the front desk, filled out paperwork and answered phones. She even worked closely with the nurses, learning how to take vitals. She loved being an English-Spanish interpreter between visiting Hopkins residents and patients. Everyone at the clinic is kind and passionate about their work, Eileen hopes to be the same way once she becomes a physician herself.
